Applied CAD/CAM in Modern Dental Lab

In modern laboratories, CAD/CAM technology applied in porcelain teeth restorations has become popular thanks to its superior features. Let's learn more about the advantages of applying CAD/CAM in teeth restorations with Xdent Dental Lab.

I. What is CAD/CAM?

Computer-Aided Design/ Computer-Aided Manufacturing, commonly abbreviated to CAD/CAM, is a design and manufacturing technique that is supported by computers. In which, CAD is responsible for helping technicians design tooth samples, and CAM is a cutting machine that cuts crowns, bridges, or veneers based on designed samples.

The information about the tooth surface, jawbone relationship, and occlusal relationship are accurately transmitted to the computer which is the heart of CAD/CAM technology. Through these specifications, the technician will design a "virtual" restoration on the computer (replacing the hand-made wax model). From a "virtual" prosthesis, the technician will turn into a real prosthetic just like the one just designed through a fabrication machine. Therefore, CAD/CAM technology makes it possible for dental technicians to perform complex restorations faster, more accurately, and more efficiently.

II. Advantages of CAD/CAM technology in a dental lab

  • Help company produce a big volume

CAD/CAM technology can design Zirconia frames for bridges up to 10 units with an average completion time is 15 minutes/unit, much faster than manual restoration. Therefore, it is possible to meet the needs of a large, professional, and modern denture factory where needs a large number of restoration teeth in a short time.

  • The restorations are more aesthetic, durable, and stability

If manual dental restorations often have errors, CAD/CAM technology will eliminate that concern. Precision design to each millimeter, absolutely no errors to help ensure absolute aesthetics, beautiful teeth in every detail, perfect structure. The natural white color is exactly like real teeth. Therefore, the CAD/CAM restorations are more aesthetic compared with manual restorations Not only that, it is also 5 times stronger than real teeth.

CAD / CAM crowns and bridges are designed and cut from porcelain blocks, so they are very durable and rarely broken when chewing as it is 5 times stronger than real teeth

More importantly, the precision in the process of restoring porcelain teeth by CAD / CAM technology has helped prevent all possible risks in which the tight fit of CAD/CAM crown helps reduce the risk of decay teeth, black gums, gingivitis, etc. As a result, the life of porcelain teeth is maintained longer and more stable.

  • Save time and cost-effectiveness

Thanks to the precision of the process of designing and manufacturing porcelain teeth, the denture factory can save the most optimal time and eliminate several costs for hiring labor, waste materials and these savings will be passed on to the price of the final product.

III. Design and manufacture dental restorations by CAD/CAM software at Xdent Dental Lab

When receiving the jaw samples or scanned files from the customer. We will conduct a function test: scan the jaw sample with a 3D machine and then transfer the data to a computer. At this time, the technician will design porcelain dental restorations with specialized software (Exocad, 3 shape)

After completing the design stage, the technician will put the porcelain material into the milling machine to form the porcelain crown according to the data that has been designed. Then, these crowns will be shaped, stained, and baked to produce a complete porcelain tooth.

At Xdent, we accept all STL Files from all scanners, from the scan file you send us, either we mill or print the model, either we prepare for you the CAD and tooth paths file. In later, you can mill the model with your own equipment.
